Terms of Use & Disclaimer

The terms you agree to by using CryptoNorth, and an honest statement of what this site is and is not.

Read this first

CryptoNorth publishes research and opinion. Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Crypto assets are volatile and you can lose money, including all of it. Balances held on any exchange are not insured by CDIC. Do your own research and consult a qualified professional before making decisions.

1. Accepting these terms

By accessing CryptoNorth you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site. We may update these terms as the site evolves; the effective date above reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

2. What this site is

CryptoNorth is an independent publisher. We compare cryptocurrency exchanges and wallets available to Canadians, with a focus on regulatory status, fees, and security history. We are not a securities dealer, adviser, broker, exchange, or money services business. We are not registered with the Canadian Securities Administrators or any provincial securities commission, we do not hold client funds, and we do not execute transactions.

3. No financial, tax, or legal advice

Everything published here is general information and opinion for a general audience. It does not account for your financial situation, objectives, risk tolerance, or tax position, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any asset or to use any particular platform.

Our tax content explains general Canada Revenue Agency rules as we understand them and is not a substitute for advice from an accountant or tax professional. Tax treatment depends on your specific circumstances and on rules that change. You are responsible for your own tax reporting.

4. Accuracy and the limits of our research

We verify fees, provincial availability, and regulatory registrations at the time of writing and display a last-verified date. Even so, this information changes frequently and often without notice. Fee schedules are revised, platforms gain or lose provincial registrations, products launch and are withdrawn, and companies are acquired.

Always confirm current details directly with the platform and with the CSA authorized platform list before signing up or depositing funds. If you find something out of date or wrong, tell us at team@cryptonorth.ca and we will correct it.

5. Affiliate relationships

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are labelled where they appear.

Our commitment: commissions do not influence our rankings, ratings, or assessments. We include platforms that pay us nothing, we criticise platforms that do pay us, and we rank regulation and user outcomes ahead of commercial relationships. Our full approach is set out in our methodology. If you ever believe a review reads as though it were bought, tell us — that feedback matters more to us than any single commission.

6. Third-party sites

We link to exchanges, wallet manufacturers, regulators, and news sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, products, security practices, or privacy policies. A link is not an endorsement or a guarantee of safety, and your dealings with any third party are solely between you and them.

7. Risk acknowledgement

By using this site you acknowledge that:

  • Crypto asset prices are highly volatile and you may lose some or all of what you invest.
  • Crypto held on an exchange is not covered by CDIC deposit insurance. Cash balances may be covered by CIPF at CIRO-regulated dealers, but this never extends to the crypto assets themselves.
  • Exchanges can be hacked, can freeze accounts, and can fail. Canadian history includes QuadrigaCX; global history includes Mt. Gox and FTX.
  • Self-custody carries its own risks. Losing a recovery phrase generally means losing the funds permanently, with no support line to call.

8. Limitation of liability

The site is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CryptoNorth and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage — including trading losses, lost profits, or loss of data — arising from your use of this site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including under consumer protection legislation.

9. Acceptable use

You may read, share, and link to our content freely. You may not republish substantial portions as your own, scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for others, or use it to mislead people about the platforms we cover. Our written content, structure, and branding remain our property.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction over any dispute, without limiting any right you may have to bring a claim where you reside.

11. Contact

Questions about these terms, corrections, or complaints: team@cryptonorth.ca, or use our contact page.

Note: these terms were drafted in plain language to reflect how CryptoNorth actually operates. They are not legal advice and have not been reviewed by a lawyer. Given this site operates in a regulated financial space, having qualified counsel review this page is worth the cost.
