Privacy Policy

How CryptoNorth handles information when you visit this site, written to align with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The short version: we don't ask you to create an account, we never sell your data, and we don't collect payment details. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful, and some outbound links to exchanges and wallet manufacturers are affiliate links that may set their own cookies.

1. Who we are

CryptoNorth is an independent publisher of cryptocurrency exchange and wallet reviews for a Canadian audience. We are not a bank, exchange, securities dealer, or registered adviser, and we do not custody funds or handle transactions. For any privacy question you can reach us at team@cryptonorth.ca.

2. Information we collect

We collect very little, and none of it identifies you by name unless you choose to email us:

  • Analytics data. Pages visited, approximate region, referring site, device and browser type, and time on page — collected through Google Analytics 4.
  • Information you send us. If you email us or use our contact page, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply.
  • Server logs. Our host, Vercel, records standard request data including IP addresses for security and reliability purposes.

We do not collect names, addresses, dates of birth, government identifiers, financial account details, wallet addresses, seed phrases, or payment card information. Never send us a recovery phrase or private key — no legitimate service will ever ask for one.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

Two categories of cookie may be set when you use this site:

  • Analytics cookies. Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to distinguish repeat visits and measure traffic patterns in aggregate.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies. When you click a link to an exchange or wallet manufacturer, that company may set a cookie to attribute the referral to us. These cookies are controlled by the destination company under their own privacy policy, not ours.

You can refuse non-essential cookies through our consent banner, and you can clear or block cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking them does not restrict access to any content on this site.

4. Why we collect it, and your consent

Under PIPEDA we identify our purposes before collecting information. We use analytics data solely to understand which guides and reviews are useful so we can improve and prioritise them, and we use anything you email us solely to respond. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling. By continuing to use the site after accepting our cookie notice you consent to these purposes, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by declining non-essential cookies or emailing us.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Information is processed by a small number of service providers strictly to operate the site:

  • Google Analytics — traffic measurement.
  • Vercel — website hosting and delivery.
  • Affiliate programs operated by the exchanges and wallet manufacturers we link to — these receive referral attribution data when you click through.

Some of these providers process and store data outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country may be accessible to that country's courts and law enforcement under its own laws. We may also disclose information where required by Canadian law.

6. How long we keep it

Analytics data is retained on Google's default retention schedule and is aggregated rather than tied to an identified individual. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry and maintain a record of any correction you requested.

7. Your rights

PIPEDA gives you the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it.
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw consent to our collection or use of your information.
  • Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we have mishandled your information.

Email team@cryptonorth.ca to exercise any of these and we will respond within 30 days, as PIPEDA requires.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and we keep the amount of information we hold deliberately minimal — the most reliable protection against a breach is not collecting the data in the first place. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security of anything you send us by email.

9. Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province or territory. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes or as our obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be noted on the page rather than made silently.

Note: this policy describes our actual practices in plain language, but it is not legal advice and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. If CryptoNorth begins collecting additional data, adding user accounts, or operating a newsletter, this policy should be revisited with qualified legal counsel.
